IRS Enterprise Computing Center Additions
The Internal Revenue Service Enterprise Computing Center in Kearneysville, West Virginia, operates 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. It was critical that the complex's new central utility plant operate without interruption, even when existing equipment was being relocated during construction.
The team responded to this challenge by modeling the existing facility’s systems in BIM (Building Information Modeling) and using phasing techniques to show temporary equipment and connections, demolition of equipment, and new equipment coming into the building. The two-story facility encompasses 51,667 square feet and was built at a cost of $37 million. The project was awarded through the General Services Administration’s Design Excellence program. HGA provided architectural design.
The Mason & Hanger design team was recognized at the 2014 GSA Design Awards, receiving a Citation for construction management on the project.
